Electroacoustic Harp: Exploring New Sounds and Possibilities

This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to the electroacoustic harp and its role in contemporary music, providing a practical and engaging experience for harpists eager to expand their sonic horizons. Participants will discover how electronics can enhance and transform the harp’s sound, unveiling new approaches to interpretation, experimentation, improvisation, and sound design. Through live demonstrations, the session will delve into the technical aspects of the electroacoustic harp, exploring how its electronic system interacts with effects, loopers, software, and external processors. The workshop will also showcase how the instrument adapts to a variety of styles—from classical to jazz, pop to experimental—unlocking creative possibilities through sound processing and electronic integration. Additionally, the session highlights opportunities for collaborations with other artists and composers. Open to professionals, students, and anyone curious about the fusion of tradition and technology in harp performance, participants will have the chance to experiment with the instrument’s capabilities and engage in discussions about new artistic approaches.

Viktoria Schmittner

Eclipse Harps – Andrea Pretzler

Viktoria Schmittner, born in Grieskirchen in 2001, began playing the harp at the Landesmusikschule Wels with Brigitte Fuchs in 2006 and continued her training with Martina Rifesser since 2013.

She is an active member of the “Harp Ensemble Vielsaiten”, which has given numerous concerts in Upper and Lower Austria under the direction of Werner Karlinger. In 2017, Viktoria Schmittner was first prize winner of the state competition prima la musica in the solo category and received the “Ratzenböck Scholarship” of the province of Upper Austria in the same year.

In addition to regular performances at church services and festive occasions throughout Upper Austria, she took part in master classes with Gabriella Dall’Olio and Park Stickney and attended an improvisation course at the Anton Bruckner Private University. Her concert activities include solo parts, such as at the reopening of the “Theater Greif” in Wels, as well as performances with renowned orchestras, including the Leonding Symphony Orchestra and the Traunklang Symphony Orchestra.
Viktoria Schmittner has repeatedly performed in important concert halls such as the Brucknerhaus Linz and the Landhaus Linz and in 2023 passed the final examination of the “Audit of Art” of the OÖ Landesmusikschulwerk with distinction. In 2022 she was involved in a CD recording with choir under the direction of Hans Haslinger and participated in several summer orchestra weeks under the direction of conductor M. Franke.

In 2024, Viktoria also demonstrated her musical skills at the renowned Flicorno d’Oro in Riva del Garda as well as at several New Year’s concerts, including under the direction of Uwe Harrer and Walter Rescheneder.
