Marcel Cara
Trained at the CNSMDP (National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris) under Isabelle Moretti, and after receiving instruction from Germaine Lorenzini, Marcel Cara (born in 1996 in Charleville-Mézières) is part of the finest tradition of the French harp school: his playing, full of depth and colour, immediately captures attention.
Marcel Cara made his debut as a soloist in prestigious venues such as the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Singer Polignac Foundation, Salle Pleyel, the Cité de la Musique in Soissons, the Auditorium of the Guimet Museum, the British Museum Auditorium in London, Shiodome Hall in Tokyo, Merkin Hall in New York, Qintai Hall in Wuhan, the auditorium of the Strasbourg Conservatory, the Sala São Paulo, the Sully Salon of the Comédie-Française as well as at various festivals such as the Messiaen Festival in the country of La Meije, Giverny, Ancenis, Les Musicales de Colmar, the Easter Festival in Deauville, and participated in the tour organized by AJAM in some of the most prestigious venues in Alsace.
From orchestral participation to recitals, he tackled all facets of the instrument at an early age. Chamber music holds a special place in his activity, collaborating with musicians such as Amaury Coeytaux, Philippe Bernold, Gérard Caussé, Aylen Pritchin, Adrien La Marca, Amaury Viduvier, Emmanuel Coppey, Quatuor Hanson and Stéphanie Huang. He has also performed as a soloist with the Paris Chamber Orchestra and Orchestre National de Cannes and played the concerto by Bruno Mantovani and Claude Debussy’s Danses as well as with the Orchestre de Picardie conducted by Arie Van Beek, with the Münchner Kammerorchester and the Paris Conservatory Orchestra Alberto Ginastera’s concerto.
He made his debut as an orchestral musician in 2015 with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and continued to perform with the Aspen Music Festival and School (USA) under the tutelage of harpist Nancy Allen, with the Verbier Festival Orchestra, and filled in with the Finnish Radio Orchestra in 2024. In residence at the Cité des Arts in Paris from 2018 to 2020, he is a laureate of the Hong Kong Harp Contest, the Young Concert Auditions in New York, the ARD in Munich, and also a scholarship recipient from the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Marcel Cara is committed to exploring the harp repertoire and contributes to its expansion by producing remarkable transcriptions. He plays a “Canopée” by Camac and recorded his first album “Resurgence” on the Paraty label in 2024.
