Eva Curth

Eva Curth is one of the most versatile interpreters in the world of harp music. Born in Herford as the daughter of an orchestral musician, she received extensive musical training, piano and singing lessons as a child. She received her first harp lessons at the age of 15 from Monika Hölters. She studied harp at the Detmold University of Music and at the MOZARTEUM University of Music and Performing Arts in Salzburg with Prof. Edward Witsenburg and completed her soloist diploma with distinction. She also received strong impulses from regular lessons with Alice Giles. Eva Curth was first engaged as a solo harpist at the Landestheater Detmold, then for 12 years as a solo harpist at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin under contract. She left the theatre at her own request in order to be able to devote herself entirely to solo and chamber music, performing and teaching, which, however, continues to include a lively orchestral temporary activity. Since 2021 she has been part of the Wagner Cycles at Concerto Köln/Dresden Festival Orchestra under Kent Nagano, where for the first time since the premiere the original sound on historical instruments is explored and revived.

As a soloist and chamber musician, she has made guest appearances all over the world. She has recorded several world premieres as well as numerous radio and CD productions. In 2014 she was invited as an artist to the World Harp Congress in Sydney, Australia, and in 2016 she was elected Deputy Chairwoman of the Association of Harpists in Germany.

Eva Curth led the harp classes at the Duisburg Music School and the School of Music and Art in Gütersloh, since 2008 she has been a lecturer at the Georg Philipp Telemann Conservatory in Magdeburg and is also an internationally sought-after lecturer of interpretation courses, workshops and private lessons. In addition to her classical studies of the concert harp, she acquired knowledge, repertoire and special playing techniques of many other harp types such as the Irish, the medieval Gothic, the Alpine folk harp as well as historical single and double pedal harps and is a sought-after musician in every field. She has also made a name for herself as a storyteller with a harp. Numerous CD recordings reflect her musical career.
